Dr. Chris Baker
Dr. Baker was born and raised in Glace Bay. He graduated from Glace Bay High School in 1999. He then entered his undergraduate studies at UCCB and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2003. Dr. Baker obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Dalhousie University in 2008 and has since been practicing general dentistry as a partner with Mayflower Dental Group.
Currently in his seventh year of practice, Dr. Baker works full-time at Mayflower Dental Centre. He enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry including crown, bridge, veneers and implant dentistry (surgical placement and restoring the implant). He is currently working toward a certificate in oral sedation/nitrous oxide administration. Dr. Baker’s number one goal as a dentist is to make his patients feel comfortable under his care while creating a healthy smile.
When not at work, Dr. Baker enjoys spending his free time with his family on their hobby farm in Mira. With a passion for horses, they enjoy riding and competing in local and off island competitions. An active individual, Dr. Baker participates in many sporting activities including hockey, Crossfit and snowmobiling. He is a proud Cape Bretoner and happy to call Cape Breton Island his home.
Dr. Shahrzad Daneshvar
Dr. Shahrzad Daneshvar is a graduate of the National Organization for Development of Exceptional Talents High school in 2003 in Iran. She first received her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from National University of Medical Sciences in 2010 in Tehran, Iran. Following University, Dr. Daneshvar started practicing as a general dentist.
After working in the Dentistry field for two years, her interest in treating Gum Disease and Implant Therapy led her to start a speciality program in Periodontology at Dalhousie University in 2012. Her passion for periodontics and implantology was not limited to the clinic and in her last year of residency she was awarded first place in the senior clinical research category in Canada, IADR meeting, Boston 2015. Her clinical research was related to dental implants outcomes at Dalhousie Dental Clinic. In May 2015, she graduated from Dalhousie University with Master Degree in Periodontology, and in September 2015 she received her fellowship in Periodontics from the Royal College of Dentistry in Canada (FRCDC). Upon completion of her training, she remained at Dalhousie University as a part-time faculty member: clinical instructor and lecturer.
Dr. Daneshvar practices all scopes of Periodontology and Implant Surgery including: Comprehensive periodontal care, implant placement, pre-prosthetic surgeries (sinus lift and ridge augmentation; bone grafting of the jaws to support implant treatment), mucogingival and periodontal plastic surgeries (connective tissue graft for gum recession treatment), free gingival graft, gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, crown lengthening and frenectomy), bone and tissue regeneration/destruction, exposure of impacted teeth to facilitate orthodontic treatment, diagnosis and treatment of oral pathology, periodontic-endodontic involved considerations, temporomandibular joint disorders treatment, and, anxiety and pain management with the various forms of conscious sedation administration. Dr. Daneshvar is an active member of the Canadian Academy of Periodontology, American Academy of Periodontology and Nova Scotia Dental Association. As a Periodontist and Implant Surgeon, her main professional goal is to provide excellent patient specific periodontal and implant treatment according to the highest standards of care while maintaining her knowledge and skills updated through continuous education.
Out of the office, she enjoys traveling, hiking, swimming and spending time with her friends.
Dr. Joseph Claener
Dr. Claener completed his undergraduate studies at St. Francis Xavier University. He then attended McGill University for Graduate School and went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery. Dr. Claener started his private practice after graduating from McGill Dental School. While practicing Dentistry, Dr. Claener taught at McGill Dental School part time. Dr. Claener was also on staff at the Reddy Memorial Hospital for two years.
Mayflower Dental Group is pleased to have Dr. Claener and his dental team at our Mayflower Dental location. He enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, periodontal therapy and TMJ therapy. Dr. Claener is constantly learning new techniques in dentistry and taking part in Continuing Education Courses.
When not practicing Dentistry, Dr .Claener likes to spend time with his family and pursuing his passion for photography. When not doing those things, he enjoys music and reading.
Dr. Michael Bungay
Dr. Bungay was born and raised in George’s River. He graduated from Memorial High School in 2005. Dr. Bungay completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology (Hons) from Cape Breton University in 2009. During his time at CBU, Dr. Bungay did research for the biology department and eventually wrote and defended his thesis. Dr. Bungay attended Dalhousie University and graduated in 2013 with his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.
Dr. Bungay came back to Cape Breton after graduation and joined Mayflower Dental Group. He is currently practicing as an associate at the Mayflower Dental location. Dr. Bungay and his professional team are committed to their patients and enjoy providing a caring and comfortable atmosphere. Dr. Bungay practices all areas of general dentistry including restorations, extractions, root canals, crowns, bridges and implant restoration. One area that Dr. Bungay enjoys is cosmetic dentistry, helping his patients acheive the smile they deserve.
Dr Bungay now resides in Westmount with his wife and three young children. They are a busy family and enjoy all outdoor activites. Dr. Bungay is very pleased that he was able to come back home and practice dentistry and raise his family.
Dr. Curtis White
Mayflower Dental Group is pleased to have Dr. Curtis White join the team at our Mayflower Dental location. Dr. White grew up in George’s River and graduated from Memorial High School. He completed his BSC Honours in Chemistry.
Dr. White graduated received his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2013 from Dalhousie University. He has been practicing dentistry in the NWT and recently moved back to Cape Breton from Newfoundland.
Dr. White is interested in all aspects of dentistry; with a keen interest in emergency care, cosmetic dentistry and implants. His goal is to work closely with his patients to ensure they receive the best care possible and feel comfortable while they are here.
In his spare time, Dr. White enjoys spending time with his wife, running, biking and boxing. He has plans to coach boxing now that he is back in Cape Breton.
Dr. Chris Law
Dr. Chris Law was born in England during the Blitz and survived a German Doodlebug attack. He went to school in England; University in Glasgow Scotland, where he received his BDS in Dentistry in 1967. After spending 4 years with the Grenfell Mission in Northern Newfoundland & Labrador he moved to Nova Scotia and worked for a year in Truro & Halifax where he obtained his Nova Scotia License. Dr. Law returned to Labrador for another 6 years, working on the Lower North Shore of PQ.
Dr. Law obtained his flying license before leaving to sail around the world in 1977. Half way around in Tahiti he decided to construct a new vessel on Vancouver Island and sailed it back from there to Cape Breton. Dr. Law then joined the Dental Arts Group at the Mayflower Mall in 1985, which later became the Mayflower Dental Centre. His main interest during those years was Oral Surgery. Due to a boating accident in 1999, his dental practice is now limited to Orthodontics and TMJD. He has studied extensively in these fields since starting his practice with the Mayflower Dental Group where he is now the Senior Partner.
Dr. Heidi Higgins
Dr. Higgins was born and raised in North Sydney, NS. She graduated from Memorial High School in 1996. Dr. Higgins received her Bachelor of Science, Major in Biology from Dalhousie University on 1999 and then went on to study Dentistry at Dalhousie. Dr. Higgins graduated in 2005 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.
Dr. Higgins joined Mayflower Dental Group immediately following graduation and is now Partner with the group. She is practicing at the Northside Dental Clinic in Sydney Mines. Dr. Higgins practices general dentistry including endodontics, crown, bridge, implant restoration and cosmetic dentistry. Assisting her patients with their dental health and creating happy smiles is her goal.
When she is not practicing dentistry, Dr.Higgins enjoys spending time with her husband and their four children.
Dr. Chris MacDonald
Dr.MacDonald was born and raised in Sydney Mines, NS. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1988. In 1995, he graduated from the University of New Brunswick and then went on to Dalhousie University and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1999.
Dr. MacDonald was offered an Associate position with Mayflower Dental following graduation from Dental School. He was an Associate for one year and became a Partner with Mayflower Dental. He is currently practicing at Mayflower Dental Group’s newest loction, Riverside Dental in Sydney River, NS.
Dr. MacDonald has a growing practice and enjoys all aspects to Dentistry, particularly Cosmetic Dentistry. Crowns, bridges, veneers and implant restorations are very rewarding for him. He has a great repore with his patients and creating healthy smiles is his number one priority.
Outside of the office, Dr. MacDonald enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He enjoys travelling and is an avid golfer and hockey player.
Dr. Raymond MacGillivray
Dr. Raymond MacGillivray grew up in Victoria Mines Cape Breton, attending school in New Waterford and graduating from Breton Education Centre in 1980. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Mary’s University in 1983 and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Dalhousie University in 1987. Dr. MacGillivray joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1984 and served in the Dental Corp as a General Dentist from 1987-1991. He attended the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital from 1991-1995 receiving his Certificate in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. He continued his career in the military at CFB Stadacona in Halifax until 2000 when Major MacGillivray took his release and entered private practice. Dr. MacGillivray has maintained a private practice in Dartmouth since 2000.
He is now returning home to live in Victoria Mines and continue the practice of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at Riverside Dental in Sydney River. Oral Surgery services include routine extractions, surgical extractions, wisdom teeth removal, bone grafting of the jaws and sinuses to support implant treatment, implant surgery, exposure of impacted teeth to facilitate orthodontic treatment, soft tissue grafts, surgical endodontics and the treatment of oral pathology and infection. Intravenous sedation is available for all surgical services. Dr. MacGillivray will be happy to assist your Family Dentist in providing you with the best possible dental care.
Dr. Chris Barrett
Dr. Barrett was born and raised in Glace Bay. He graduated from Glace Bay High School in 1991. He completed his undergraduate degree from UCCB in 1994. Dr. Barrett then went on to Dalhousie School of Dentisty and graduated in the class of 2000 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.
Dr. Barrett has been in practice for 15 years and is one of the Partners with Mayflower Dental Group. Currently, Dr. Barrett is practicing full-time at our Bayside Dental Clinic in Glace Bay. He enjoys all aspects of dentistry with special interest in Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Barrett has an excellent relationship with his patients and looks forward to assisting them with their oral health. He is also a member of the Cape Breton Dental Society.
When he is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Barrett enjoys spending time with his family and cheering on his children at the basketball court, soccer field and the hockey rink.
Dr. Louise MacLeod
Dr. MacLeod was born and raised in Leitches Creek, Cape Breton. She is a graduate of Thompson High School, CCB, St. F.X. University and Dalhousie University receiving her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1984.
Dr. MacLeod had practiced in Truro for 2 years following graduation before returning to Cape Breton to set up her practice in North Sydney in 1986.
Dr. MacLeod has grown her practice in North Sydney over the last 30 years and enjoys all aspects to Dentistry, she is a member of the Cape Breton Island Dental Society and a member of The International College of Dentists
Outside of the office, Dr. MacLeod is very active in her community and is a member of the Rotary Club of North Sydney, she is an avid Cape Breton Screaming Eagles fan and enjoys travelling especially when she can participate in Dental Missions.
Dr. Meaghan Petite
Dr. Petite was born and raised in Sydney Mines, NS. She graduated from Memorial High School in 2001. She then graduated from Saint Francis Xavier University with an Advanced Bachelor of Science Degree in 2005. Dr. Petite graduated from Dalhousie University with a Doctor of Dental Surgery, concentrating on restoring implants in 2009.
Dr. Petite has been practicing dentistry in the Sydney area for the past six years. She joined Mayflower Dental Group three years ago and is now a partner with the Group. Dr. Petite performs all aspects of dentistry and her goals are concentrating on making her patients feel comfortable in the chair and taking the time to assist them with deciding on treatment options that are suitable for them.
When she is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Petite enjoys travelling, yoga, golfing and spending time with her husband Shane and their two young boys, Jude and Michael.
